For much of US history, Juneteenth has been a date observed mostly by Black Americans commemorating the symbolic end of slavery. However, on June 17th, 2021, US President Joe Biden signed into a law legislation that would establish June 19th as Juneteenth National Independence Day, a federal holiday.
